EpiInfo 3.2 | Create Map with Excel and EpiMap - Step 1

Today, we will make a map using data from Microsoft Excel file and EpiMap from EpiInfo 3.2. We need two files, first excel file with field geograhic name and number of Swine Flue case. We will use Mexico area as sample for our exercise today. At the end of exercise you will be able to create a map using excel file data sheet with EpiMap from EpiInfo 3.2 and copy it to Microsoft power point for use as your presentation file.

Step 1.
1.Create an excel file with field name StateName and SwineFlueCases
2.Type name of StateName and swineflue cases just like table bellow (type it same as what you see on the screen)

3. Save as EpiInfoExercise.xls

What you can do with EpiInfo??you can do analysis data with Epi Info Analysis. You can create questioner form with EpiInfo Make View and enter the data with Epi Info Enter. After that, you can create the report with EpiInfo Report or create a map with Epi Info Map. For the map, you need a file shapefile map.

Now, with Epi Info 3.2 and Excel program, i can make map file with simple way. first, read the data in the excel format. Second is export the data into Epi info 3.2 data format and the last is create the data with epi map. Of course to do all this things you need to run Analysis program. today i am so happy because i can help my friend to create a map with epi info 3.2 and excel program as describe above.

Epi info is free software from CDC Atlanta to help people develop a questionnaire or form, customize the data entry process, and enter and analyze data to create Epidemiologic statistics, tables, graphs, and maps. I have been playing with Epi Info Software since last 2 years. What i like from Epi Info is the software is free. I can easly understand to operate this software because Epi Info have user friendly interface and also i can create a map. I hope in the future, the Epi Map will also have funtion to Merge and dissolve the shape file just like Arcview software from ESRI Company.
